Minecraft Inspired Llama

DOWNLOAD PDF:

NOTE: I almost threw away this pattern because I didn't like how it came out and it might be full of errors. It was also a lot of work, so I won't be making another one. If anyone wants to take this pattern, fix it and re-publish it as their own, they are more than welcome to do that.

Difficultly Level: Advanced Beginner / Intermediate

Materials:
  • worsted weight yarn;
    white
    green
    red
    light grey
off white, cream, brown or grey
small amount of light brown and black for embroidering face
  • size G (4mm) crochet hook
  • yarn needle
  • stuffing

Special Stitches:

CD / Corner Definition: Insert hook into next st normally, skip next st, insert hook into next st from the back. Yarn over and pull yarn through both sts. Yarn over again and pull through remaining two loops on hook. Sc in next st (the skipped stitch). Sc in next st (this will be the same st you already single crocheted through before).

Note: This stitch does not increase or decrease the total number of sts. The purpose of this stitch is to attempt to create a more cuboid type of shape. If it is too difficult to understand my instructions, you could just sc normally instead.

COLLAR
With light grey yarn, make a chain long enough so that, when slip-stitched together, fits snugly around the llama's neck, where the neck meets the body (for me, this was approximately 31 chain sts). Do not cut yarn.
Ch1, sc in same st as sl st, sc in next 2 chains, *sl st in each of next 2 chains, sc in next 3 chains, repeat from * three more times, sl st in each remaining ch, join to first st with a sl st. Fasten off.

Repeat from * for each cluster of sc sts.

HEADDRESS
With light grey yarn, make a chain long enough so that, when slip-stitched together, fits snugly on top of the llama's head, around the ears (for me, this was approximately 28 chain sts). Do not cut yarn. Ch1, sc in same st as sl st, sc in next 2 chains, sl st a little less than halfway around, sc in next 3 chains, sl st in each remaining ch, sl st to first sc. Fasten off.

Repeat from * on opposite side.

ASSEMBLY
Add stuffing to legs, being careful not to over-stuff.
Pin and sew legs to body, attempting to maintain the established cuboid shape while doing so.
Stuff head and neck and then position and pin it to the llama's body. Sew it in place when you are happy with the placement. This is the hardest piece to sew together.
Stuff and sew ears to top of head.
Stuff and sew muzzle to front of face.
Sew/tack the carpet to the llama's back.
Sew/tack the headdress to the llama's head, around the ears.
Sew/tack the collar to the llama's neck.
Embroider llama's face.
